Washington (AP) The NFL has long wanted to build a stadium in Washington, D.C., but the city’s mayor says the league will not build a facility until 2020.
Mayor Muriel Bowser says the stadium issue was one of the most contentious issues she had dealt with as a councilmember.
Bowser says she has heard from a wide range of people about the stadium and she wants to keep the discussion going.
The mayor says there is a lot of work to be done before a decision is made on whether to build in Washington.
Council unanimously approved a plan to create a stadium on the eastern edge of the city that would include the Washington Nationals’ and a soccer stadium.
It was approved on a 4-1 vote.
Bowser and the city are seeking public input on the stadium project, including on how the city should spend $40 million.
